Classic Harbor Line is honored to be featured in Foghorn Magazine! Classic Harbor Line recently celebrated an exciting milestone during Climate Week NYC. The event, held in late September, marked the christening of their latest vessel, the Schooner Adirondack IV. The 90-foot, all-wooden schooner was introduced during a special ceremony. This christening was made even more memorable by honoring the 2024 Ocean Champion awardee in collaboration with the Stone Soup Leadership Institute. The Adirondack IV’s completion also celebrates Classic Harbor Line’s longstanding 30-year commitment to providing unparalleled sailing experiences from New York’s Chelsea Piers.

BOAT

The new Schooner Adirondack IV is designed with both tradition and functionality in mind. Certified to carry 70 passengers, this vessel stands as a testament to Classic Harbor Line’s dedication to quality and craft in marine tourism. The schooner was meticulously built by Scarano Boat Building, a PVA associate member based in Albany, New York. Furthermore, Scarano Boat Building’s work on this vessel maintains their reputation for high standards in shipbuilding, and their ability to pair modern certification needs with classic, handcrafted design.

EVENT

The event offered attendees a unique behind-the-scenes experience with the Adirondack IV’s builders and crew. Guests connected with the ship’s makers and additionally gained insights into the craftsmanship that went into creating the Adirondack IV. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to embark on a celebratory cruise through New York Harbor. The attendee’s voyage allowed them to see the schooner in action and experience Classic Harbor Line’s commitment to providing world-class sailing adventures.

LEGACY

The launch of the Adirondack IV represents more than a new addition to Classic Harbor Line’s fleet. Adirondack IV highlights our company’s continued efforts to promote tourism and maritime culture while honoring our tradition of eco-conscious, handcrafted vessels. For three decades, Classic Harbor Line has offered the best in sightseeing and sailing. Above all, Adirondack IV is a symbol of this legacy. As we look forward to many more years of exceptional service, Classic Harbor Line remains dedicated to enriching the New York City sailing experience.

NYT Urban Naturalist Tour

Off bow of Manhattan, guests see an Abandoned Island in the distance

“Not all the islands in New York Harbor are as densely populated as Manhattan. But even those that are technically uninhabited have their own intriguing residents.”

– New York Times
Guests spot wildlife on NYC abandoned islands.

Classic Harbor Line is excited to announce that our “Urban Naturalist Tour: Abandoned Islands” has been featured in the New York Times! This recognition is a testament to the unique experience we offer aboard our 1920s-style yachts. This tour allows guests to explore some of New York City’s most intriguing and lesser-known natural sites.

What to expect

During this three-hour cruise, passengers sail past fascinating points like U Thant Island, Mill Rock, and the North and South Brother Islands. These locations are home to a variety of wildlife, including ospreys, double-crested cormorants, snowy egrets, and different types of herons. It’s a rare chance to witness these majestic birds in their natural habitats, right within the city.

For the best experience, we recommend bringing binoculars. However, even without them, you may catch sight of one of these birds swooping overhead or taking flight from a nearby channel marker. Each tour is led by an experienced naturalist, either Gabriel Willow or Russell Jacobs, who shares fascinating insights. They’ll teach you how to distinguish fish crows from American crows by their distinctive caws and reveal other secrets of the harbor’s wildlife.

This tour isn’t just about nature; it also delves into the rich history of New York Harbor. You’ll hear captivating stories about shipwrecks, the infamous Typhoid Mary, and even the Statue of Liberty. Young sailors will especially appreciate the close-up view of this iconic landmark. This tour also emphasizes the power of mother nature. These once human inhabited and developed islands, have been reclaimed by the wild.

A Serenade for Lady Liberty

Guest on the deck of America 2.0 in NY Harbor for Jazz Cruise

“Classic Harbor Sunset Jazz Cruise new way to enjoy isle & waters of Manhattan”

– The Komisar Scoop

Statue of Liberty and Schooner America 2.0

At Classic Harbor Line, we pride ourselves on offering unique and unforgettable experiences on the water like our America 2.0 Jazz cruise. Recently featured in The Komisar Scoop, our Jazz Sail from Lower Manhattan to New York Harbor aboard the 105-foot sailing yacht, Schooner America 2.0, provided an evening to remember.

The Magic of the America 2.0 Jazz Cruise with Classic Harbor Line

As America 2.0 sailed close to the Statue of Liberty, our passengers were treated to an impromptu performance by a dozen members of the Paris-American Club. All of a sudden the group broke into “La Marseillaise” in honor of the French gift to America. This unexpected serenade added a charming and patriotic touch to the cruise, especially with Bastille Day just around the corner.

The main musical entertainment for the evening was a delightful mix of jazz tunes performed by the Boatband. Led by fan favorites Michael McGarril on saxophone, Christian Nourijanian on keyboard and Dustin Kaufman on drums. Undoubtedly, the band’s soft melodies provided the perfect backdrop for conversation and relaxation. Classics like “Blue Skies” were beautifully paired with modern favorites such as Otis Redding’s “The Dock of the Bay.”

Before the serenade, the journey began at Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers. Firstly following the stunning shoreline of the Financial District to New York Harbor and the iconic Statue of Liberty. Passengers were comfortably seated on benches along the port and starboard sides of the schooner. Those on board enjoyed a breathtaking sunset on the return trip.

The crew of America 2.0 added to the experience by hoisting sails and adjusting ropes. The crew also served complimentary beverages, including wine, beer, champagne, and soft drinks. Guests were welcome to bring their own snacks, making the evening both elegant and moreover, personal.

The Schooner America 2.0 is a modern homage to the original Schooner America, which won the first America’s Cup in 1851. America 2.0 operates in New York City from June through October and in Key West from November through May. Emphatically, this schooner combines historical elegance with contemporary comfort.

Info

Join us every Tuesday from 6:45 pm to 8:45 pm for our Jazz Cruise, departing from Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers. We look forward to welcoming you aboard for an evening of music, sailing, and spectacular views.
