NYC Holiday Savory Snacks aboard Yacht Manhattan II for the Cocoa & Carols Cruise

Holiday Savory Snacks
Our chef Wendy Crispell creates house made snacks in our galley for all of our holiday cruises. This year a special savory snack mix is also being offered
in addition to freshly prepared pizelle, cookies and rice crispy treats. This slightly spicy, salty, crunchy, savory treat pairs perfectly with a dry crisp bubbly or any number of wine, beers or cocktails. Make a batch and get your own party started or hop aboard one of our many holiday themed evening cruises to enjoy this delicious treat.
This recipe is inspired by the classic treat Wendy’s mom made for holiday get togethers with friends and family in the 70s and 80s. Wendy has brought her spin on it to our galley this year, with rave reviews from crew and guests. This recipe makes enough to share with friends, buy some decorative jars and you’ve got a tasty treat to bring to any festive gathering!

4 cups wheat chex
3 cups rice chex

Best Holiday Activities in NYC

NYC Holiday Activities

Although we don’t like to skip any holidays (we truly love them all), we also understand the need to plan before the hustle and bustle of the season is in full swing. Our NYC holiday cruises are now available to book! Surprise your special someone for date night, or bring your friends and family visiting from out of town and start celebrating the holidays! Our _7504495 (1)tours below will make your day feel merry and bright.

Back by popular demand, the Cocoa & Carols Cruise is the perfect way to kick off the season. Classic Harbor Line’s courteous crew will welcome you into the beautifully decorated and heated main cabin of Yacht Manhattan II with large observation windows. As you settle into a seat with a couple of pillows, you’ll enjoy the cozy atmosphere, a hot beverage, sweet treats, and the cheerful sound of a caroler serenading with a Jazz Band into the night under the glow of the city’s lights.

The Holiday Jazz Cruise is a favorite year after year and one not to be missed. Bring a date or a few friends, and sit back with a glass of wine or a steaming beverage as The Sound Waves play all the holiday classics. We promise you’ll leave whistling some tunes with a joyful heart.

For all you foodies, or for anyone into NYC brunching, the Around Manhattan Holiday Brunch Cruise is the ideal combination of our favorite brunch cuisine, sightseeing, and relaxation. It’s the perfect start to a shopping day in Manhattan! Mimosas and mistletoe included.

The Champagne and City Lights Cruise is one of our most romantic and regularly offered trips year-round, which is an _7504742 (1)added bonus to our holiday cruises. We especially enjoy it during the holiday season when the main cabin is decked-out with holly, garland and mistletoe, and the festive holiday lights along Manhattan’s shoreline are extra bright. Add this to your holiday to-do list and invite a few friends or your closest co-workers for a mini holiday party.

If you’re a New Yorker with friends and family visiting this holiday season, we highly recommend one of these trips. There’s no doubt your visitors will love the unobstructed views of Manhattan’s skyline and the Statue of Liberty. As you cruise around New York Harbor on a beautiful 1920s inspired yacht, you’ll remember why you love the holidays and New York.

For sightseers visiting the city or locals alike, a cruise around New York’s waterways on one of our classic yachts is destined to be the highlight of your day. Bring your Smartphone and snap a selfie with your friends and family. We’ll cruise by Manhattan’s Financial District, the One World Trade building, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and so much more.

For all the company party planners out there, here’s a Hint: Our boats are available to charter for private holiday parties.

A Note about the Author:

Meg Yeiter: Meg grew up and went to college in Michigan. After graduation, she did what any 21-year-old with a degree and no img_9344job would do – move to a mountain town to spend all day skiing fresh powder and afternoons clinking glasses at chic après ski lodges. Just kidding, she moved to Park City, Utah, where she got her first journalism job as a reporter at the local newspaper and borrowed her friends ski’s to hit the slopes a few times a month. Meg has always had a passion for traveling and the outdoors. She moved to New York City in early 2015. During her first year here, Meg found herself consistently running to Classic Harbor Line to catch an evening sunset sail. She officially joined the Classic Harbor Line team in April 2016 and now no longer needs to run anywhere. In her free time, Meg enjoys exploring New England, repurposing furniture, and sailing of course.

NYC Wine Tasting: Harvest Holiday Wine

Harvest Holiday Wine and Cheese Tastings

Here at Classic Harbor Line we host over twenty five different wine tastings a year.  In November and December a number of holiday themed tastings are 20151219_141701offered, including this months topic;   Local cheese and paired red wine.

The East Coast is filled with creative cheesemakers including over fifty in New York State alone. Right outside the city in the Hudson Valley are spectacular farms producing goat, sheep and cows milk cheeses. One of my favorite’s Nettle Meadows Farm will be featured at this weeks tasting. Made with a  mixture of cow and goat’s milk  Kunik is a bloomy rind cheese with a creamy, dense center, a mineral finish and an addictive soft paste just beneath the rind.  Paired with an earthy Pinot Noir from Oregon and dried cranberries Kunik is the perfect choice to start a tasting.

Also featured will be a sharp aged cheese from 5 Spoke Creamery in Goshen, NY.  5 Spoke crafts over eight cheeses from their own raw milk in a  renovated creamery housed in an over 100 year old barn. Tumbleweed, a cross between a Cantal Fermier (Le Salers) and an aged Cheddar, is a semi-hard cheese that shows its true form after 12 months in the cave. It’s sweet fruity taste shows grassy, onion notes and a sharp piquant finish. Rich reds are the perfect pairing! Also this is a perfect cooking cheese. It will make the best mac and cheese you’ll ever taste!

20160611_153343Other cheeses from Vermont and Connecticut along with a mixture of wines from California and the Pacific Northwest will be paired perfectly along with a pumpkin chutney, crusty breads, honey and dried fruits. This selection will be the perfect addition to your holiday table!

In December a special wine, cheese and chocolate and a workshop to teach you how to craft a beautiful display will be featured. Each tasting has new and unique wines sourced from small farms, family run vineyards or small boutique operations. Join us for a unique and educational experience aboard  motor yacht Manhattan.
