Harvest Holiday Wine and Cheese Tastings
Here at Classic Harbor Line we host over twenty five different wine tastings a year. In November and December a number of holiday themed tastings are offered, including this months topic; Local cheese and paired red wine.
The East Coast is filled with creative cheesemakers including over fifty in New York State alone. Right outside the city in the Hudson Valley are spectacular farms producing goat, sheep and cows milk cheeses. One of my favorite’s Nettle Meadows Farm will be featured at this weeks tasting. Made with a mixture of cow and goat’s milk Kunik is a bloomy rind cheese with a creamy, dense center, a mineral finish and an addictive soft paste just beneath the rind. Paired with an earthy Pinot Noir from Oregon and dried cranberries Kunik is the perfect choice to start a tasting.
Also featured will be a sharp aged cheese from 5 Spoke Creamery in Goshen, NY. 5 Spoke crafts over eight cheeses from their own raw milk in a renovated creamery housed in an over 100 year old barn. Tumbleweed, a cross between a Cantal Fermier (Le Salers) and an aged Cheddar, is a semi-hard cheese that shows its true form after 12 months in the cave. It’s sweet fruity taste shows grassy, onion notes and a sharp piquant finish. Rich reds are the perfect pairing! Also this is a perfect cooking cheese. It will make the best mac and cheese you’ll ever taste!
Other cheeses from Vermont and Connecticut along with a mixture of wines from California and the Pacific Northwest will be paired perfectly along with a pumpkin chutney, crusty breads, honey and dried fruits. This selection will be the perfect addition to your holiday table!
In December a special wine, cheese and chocolate and a workshop to teach you how to craft a beautiful display will be featured. Each tasting has new and unique wines sourced from small farms, family run vineyards or small boutique operations. Join us for a unique and educational experience aboard motor yacht Manhattan.
